Accessibility

At RAW Technical Services we build websites/products that support the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) accessibility standards and that are cross browser compatible.

We aim to provide equal opportunity of access to information and services for all, regardless of ability.

Business benefits of accessibility

An inclusive website/web product benefits all users and provides many benefits, including:

  • improved usability
  • demonstration of social responsibility
  • reduced legal liability
  • positive public relations
  • improved delivery of content
  • improved search engine listing and site search capability of website

Accessibility and the law

In the UK the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) has exerted pressure on businesses to develop accessible websites. From October 2004, "offering services on the Web without addressing accessibility and opening up these services to a disabled audience could lead to successful prosecution", which has already happened in the USA and Australia.

The Disability Rights Commission (DRC) published their report The Web:Access and Inclusion for Disabled People in 2004 which concluded that most websites (81%) fail to satisfy the most basic Web Accessibility Initiative category. Our aim is to ensure that your site or product is not in this category!

Please contact us if you would like us to check your website meets the accessibility requirements.
